Why Volunteers are Needed
Click Here for a Volunteer Application
There are many different ways that you can help as a volunteer. The shelter is currently looking for volunteers to help clean, socialize, and groom the animals. Maybe you do not want to work with the animals but you still want to help out, the shelter needs volunteers to file, answer phones, water the trees, wash dishes and do laundry. Our events have a lot of volunteer opportunities as well. We are also currently seeking volunteers to assist with our annual fundraiser, the Furball.
Donations help care for our lost and homeless pets until they
can be adopted or returned to their owners. There are many
ways to donate to our cause.
Monetary - Our #1 need for the shelter is money. All money
is used specifically for the Shelter. It is used to pay light
and heating bills, repairs and maintenance, supplies for the
pets and wages for our staff.
When you become a donor, your name will be posted on our donor
list page and our Newsletter, Pet Prints.

Here's the Scoop: Shelter Uses Over 18 Tons of Cat Litter a Year!
The Cheyenne Animal Shelter uses an average of 100 pounds of kitty litter each day. Per year, that amounts to:
36,500 pounds of litter
Or 18,250 tons
That comes to 912 40-pound bags of litter at a cost of $3,650.
Your donations of regular, non-clumping cat litter help tremendously!
The Cheyenne Animal Shelter is a 501 (c) (3) private, non-profit corporation. For more information, contact Gail Young, at 632-6655 xt. 26.

Volunteer Peak Season
Our peak season requiring more staff is summer. Volunteers are needed for
many projects in the shelter. As the months tend to bring about outdoor
play, more animals become lost, neglected, and released to us for various
reasons. Your time is greatly appreciated! Volunteers Thanks! We extend
a hearty warm thanks to all our current volunteers. Truly they have helped
the shelter in many ways. Part of our success can be attributed to all
the hard work and dedication they have given.
Why Volunteers Are Needed
Although most animals are self-supportive, they still
depend on us to ensure they stay healthy during their short
stay at the shelter while waiting to be adopted. From watering,
feeding and cleaning as well as plain ole' attention...your
helping hand helps and is needed.

Help Save Lives By Fostering
The Cheyenne Animal Shelter is looking for foster caregivers to provide temporary homes for cats, kittens, dogs and puppies in need of special care. The shelter receives many animals needing more than the shelter may be able to provide, these animals may be injured, have treatable illnesses, be un-weaned or be even mothers with litters of puppies or kittens. These animals need temporary housing until they are well enough, old enough, or ready to be altered and adopted.
If you are interested in becoming a foster caregiver for the Cheyenne Animal Shelter, you must be at least 18 years or older, have the ability to keep foster animals separate from your own pets, and must be available for at least 2 weeks at a time. In order to keep your animals safe, all animals that you currently own must be current on their vaccinations.
The shelter will provide all the materials that you need to be a successful foster parent (except kitty litter—the shelter is always very short on kitty litter) all you need to provide is love and attention!
Many foster parents fall in love with their foster animals, do not worry, if you can not live without your foster baby, you have first option to adopt them.
To become a foster parent, stop by the Cheyenne Animal Shelter at 800 Southwest Drive and fill out an application or click here for a printable application. Fax applications to the shelter at 307-634-7361 (attention Michelle S) or mail them to 800 Southwest Drive (82007).
For more information about becoming a foster caregiver, call Michelle Salisbury at 307-632-6655 ext 22.
Foster Wish List
If you may not be able to foster an animal at this time but would like to help out the homeless animals in need of foster care, consider making an in-kind donation to the foster program. Right now, the foster program is currently in need of KMR (kitten milk replacement), cat litter, canned kitten food, puppy milk replacement, puppy and kitten bottles and large crates (for dogs 50 lbs or over).
Trusts for Pets
Did you know that Wyoming is one of only a handful of states that allows
pet owners to provide for their pets through a trust?
Since the passage of the Uniform Trust Code in Wyoming in July 2003, individuals
can legally set up trusts for the benefit of their pets. These types
of trusts can be created as part of a revocable living trust or as a separate
trust to provide funds for the care of pets if something should happen to
the grantor.
This type of trust could also be tied in with a charitable trust to provide
funds for an animal shelter or pet cemetery if there are funds remaining
after the pets are gone.
You can make a lasting contribution to the welfare of countless animals through
a bequest to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter in your will. Such bequests are
also deductible for estate-tax purposes. To include the Shelter in
your will, you must specify its proper name and street address. Your bequest
can be simply stated; for example: "I give to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter,
800 Southwest Drive, Cheyenne, WY 82007, the sum of _______ Dollars." (If
you are leaving insurance policies, land or other property, please describe).
The Cheyenne Animal Shelter is a private, non-profit charity, supported by
people who love and care for animals. Founded in 1973, the Cheyenne Animal
Shelter has been serving the animals of Cheyenne and Laramie County for more
than 30 years. The continuation of its vital services depends on people like
you. For more information or to discuss making a bequest to the Cheyenne
Animal Shelter, please contact Michelle Hazzard at (307) 632-6655, ext. 33.
Donate your old car, truck, jetski, snowmobile or boat
The Shelter now has a program in place that allows you to get rid of your old junker (or perhaps your motorcycle or the like …) and make a tax deductible contribution to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
Here is how it works– Call the Wyoming Auto Auction at 632-8648 and tell them that you would like to donate and have the Shelter be the beneficiary of your donation. You will need to provide the title (with your name on the front in the owners section) and the keys. You will receive a tax receipt for the selling price for your vehicle or other. They will be auctioned on certain days and the Cheyenne Animal Shelter will receive all but a small percentage of the money raised. It is that easy. Please remember this option if you are looking for a positive way to get rid of autos or old toys.
Please contact Michelle Hazzard at the Shelter at 632-6655 ext 33.
