Nancy Mockler Dog Park to be Temporarily Closed
The Cheyenne Animal Shelter will temporarily close the Nancy Mockler Dog Park beginning March 1, 2026, through June 1, 2026, to complete extensive cleaning, necessary repairs, and removal of damaged and broken equipment.
Over time, the park has experienced significant wear and vandalism, including damaged fencing, broken equipment, and theft. In recent months, the Shelter has also faced ongoing challenges with patrons not cleaning up after their dogs, the dumping of large amounts of household trash into the park dumpster, and the discarding of cigarette butts inside structures. These issues have contributed to unsanitary and unsafe conditions that now require comprehensive remediation.
The Nancy Mockler Dog Park has been a valuable community space for many years, but community spaces only thrive when everyone shares responsibility. With increasing issues with pet waste not being picked up, misuse of the dumpster for household trash, and vandalism, this temporary closure gives us the opportunity to restore the park to a safe, clean, and welcoming environment while we evaluate how to protect it for the long term.
During the closure period, the Shelter’s Board of Directors and staff will assess improvements, explore operational considerations, and develop a plan that supports the park’s sustainability moving forward.
Updates regarding reopening plans and future improvements will be shared as they become available.
We’re incredibly grateful to the many responsible pet owners and community members who care deeply about this space and use it respectfully every day. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we work to restore the park and ensure it remains a place our community can enjoy for years to come.
