Vet Clinic Spotlight - An Inside Look at our Veterinary Program

As a pledged member of the Socially Conscious Animal Community, the Cheyenne Animal Shelter is responsible for assessing the medical and behavioral needs of homeless animals and ensuring these needs are thoughtfully addressed. Our hardworking veterinary team does just that.

The vet clinic program provides a range of services including vaccinations, microchipping, spaying and neutering, check-ups, and surgeries at a reduced, affordable cost. Dr. Tessha Winsch, DVM, our Medical Director, handles the procedures completed in our clinic, as well as oversees the program and the well-being of the animals that require our care.

Having been the director of the vet clinic for the last 11 years, Dr. Tess has seen it all. Recently, a 3-year-old cat named Chico joined us at the Shelter as a stray with a chronic severe injury to his hip. This injury impaired his ability to walk properly and made movement quite painful for this sweet cat. Dr. Tess and her team’s skill and care, as well as the generous donations from our community, provided Chico with the surgery he needed to repair his hip and restore him to the quality of health he deserved. If you’re looking for a happy ending, you’re in luck! Chico recovered perfectly from his surgery, was moved to the adoption floor, and shortly after was brought home by a loving adopter.

Back in January, we held quite a successful vaccine clinic. The Cheyenne Animal Shelter Foundation sponsored this clinic, and we were able to provide vaccines to the community at no cost. Our vet team and selfless volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure that each pet received the proper care and attention they deserved.

This clinic included free Rabies, DA2VP, FVRCP, and Bordetella vaccines as well as microchips at half price! The turnout was phenomenal and, with a line out the door and around the building, our team was able to successfully support 148 families and 237 pets with 610 vaccinations and 58 microchips administered in the span of 4 hours. The success of this vaccine clinic is a testament to the dedication of the veterinary team and shelter staff to support our community and the health of their furry friends.

Wondering how you can support our vet clinic? We are always accepting donations, whether it be cash or supplies, as they directly support the pets we care for here at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter. Additionally, you can view our Amazon Wishlist which includes specific items that we need and use daily in our care. Volunteers are essential to the Shelter and truly make our world go ‘round.
